The Florida Gators and head coach Jon Sumrall have continued their dominant run in the 2027 recruiting cycle with another commitment on Friday morning.
The Florida Gators, under newly-hired head coach Jon Sumrall, have been nothing short of impressive on the recruiting trail upon his arrival to the program back in December.
With Sumrall taking over the struggling SEC school, Florida has been one of the best teams in the 2027 recruiting cycle, as the Gators are the fifth-best program in 247Sports’ 2027 recruiting rankings. However, the recent dominant stretch from Sumrall and his coaching staff has shown no signs of stopping heading into the summer.
According to Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett on Friday morning, 2027 three-star safety Kamarion Johnson has committed to the Gators over the likes of the Florida State Seminoles and the Cincinnati Bearcats.
Johnson’s Recruitment Journey
Johnson, as one of the more underrated high school playmakers in the country, becomes yet another huge commitment for Sumrall and Florida. As of this month, the highly-touted recruit is currently a top-40 safety in the 2027 class, as well as a top-50 prospect in the state of Georgia, per 247Sports’ Composite.
Throughout his time at Clinch County High School, Johnson has proven to be a lethal threat on both sides of the ball, racking up 1,559 receiving yards and 19 touchdowns over his last two seasons. On defense, however, the latest Gator commit has done an incredible job, recording 48 tackles, 6 tackles for loss, and 5 interceptions in his last two years with the Panthers.
Standing at 6-foot, 180 lbs., Johnson already possesses a terrific frame to excel as a defensive back at the collegiate level. This, along with his track background of placing 4th in the 400-meter dash at the Georgia 1A Division II state meet as a sophomore, will allow him to go toe-to-toe with some of the best college athletes in the near future.
Now, with Johnson announcing his commitment to the Gators on Friday, Sumrall’s 2027 class features a total of 20 commits with a whole summer left of recruiting to go. The program’s newest head coach was able to successfully land one of the top offensive tackles in the upcoming recruiting class in five-star Maxwell Hiller back in April.
In addition to Hiller, Florida also has 14 four-star commits in the class, including a pair of four-stars in wide receiver Elias Pearl and quarterback Davin Davidson.
