The Florida Gators have jumped into the top 25 for the first time since head coach Jon Sumrall took the helm.
The Florida Gators have moved up into the top 25 of the AP Poll, now ranked 21st in the country.
This is the first time that Florida has been ranked all season in Jon Sumrall's first year as their head coach.
It's been quite a turnaround for the Gators since Sumrall took over, as they finished with a 4-8 record in 2025, but Sumrall's squad is 3-0 to start the 2026 season.
Sumrall has done a phenomenal job at every program he has coached, leading Troy to a 23-4 record and Tulane to a 20-8 record with a College Football Playoff appearance.
Sumrall's success has translated to Florida thus far, with the talent he brought in through the transfer portal making a major difference. The Gators came away with an impressive 44-39 win over the Auburn Tigers in Week 3.
USA TODAY Network via Reuters ConnectThe offense has consistently played at a high level for Florida, with star running back Jadan Baugh leading the way. Baugh rushed for 162 yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries against Auburn. Duke Clark also added to the run game with 50 yards and a touchdown.
Transfer quarterback Aaron Philo didn't have his best performance, but was solid, completing 15 of 22 passes for 204 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.
Vernell Brown III led the team in receptions and yards with five receptions for 86 yards, while Dallas Wilson had four receptions for 74 yards and a touchdown.
On defense, the Gators allowed 39 points but had a strong pass rush, recording seven sacks. Jayden Woods and Emmanuel Oyebadejo each had 2.5 sacks, while Jaden Robinson and DK Kalu each had a sack.
Cormani McClain came away with an interception, the only turnover Florida forced.
Sumrall and the Gators will face their biggest test of the season in Week 4 as they take on the Ole Miss Rebels, the fourth-ranked team in the country.
If Sumrall can pull off a win in that matchup, Florida could skyrocket in the rankings and establish themselves as a potential contender for a College Football Playoff spot.
