Florida's Frontcourt Named Best in College Basketball
Oct 27, 2026 7:02 PM

The Florida Gators’ veteran trio looks to redeem a postseason upset and secure another national title for Todd Golden.

Not only did CBS Sports' Matt Norlander say that the Florida Gators have the best frontcourt in all of basketball, but he also said they're one of the strongest preseason No. 1-ranked teams in the past 15 years.

To say that's high praise would be an understatement, and he had nothing but stellar things to say about Thomas Haugh, Rueben Chinyelu, and Alex Condon.

Together, those three are going to set the tone not just for this Gators squad, but should be poised to be the best trio in the entire country.

Coming into this season, Florida couldn't have possibly asked for a better roster, but they still have to put their money where their mouth is by winning another National Championship in the Todd Golden era.

The 2026 SEC Coach of the Year has a lot riding on this season, but he remains confident that this core group of Gators players has what it takes to get the job done.

Haugh is one of the best players in the country

To be named a preseason All-American is no joke, and Haugh is on seemingly every list in the nation.

This is a guy who returns to the Gators after a year when he was named First-team All-SEC and a consensus second-team All-American.

Keep in mind that doesn't even include his National Championship in 2025.

The 23-year-old is stacking up accolades left and right, and for good reason. When the 2026-27 season comes to an end, even if Florida doesn't win it all, it's safe to assume that another All-American honor will be coming Haugh's way.

Defense wins championships

A high-scoring, fast-paced offense seems to be the name of the game in the modern era of college basketball, but there's no one who plays defense quite like Chinyelu.

Chinyelu, 23, was named Second-team All-SEC in 2026, along with being on the SEC All-Defensive Team and being named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year.

Condon is ready for another title

One of the best stories on this Gators team has been the rise of Condon. The 22-year-old Australian native was on the SEC All-Freshman Team in 2024, and he's been on the All-SEC Third Team each of the last two seasons.

Together, these three have been playing with each other for quite some time, which is a rarity in this era.

Norlander noted they're in rarefied air as one of three trios in the last 35 years to each average 10-plus points, six-plus rebounds, and one-plus blocks in a season.

No doubt, they got paid a lot of money to stick around, but this is a group that didn't like the taste left in their mouths after being upset by Iowa in the NCAA Tournament in March.
