Despite a gritty road win at Jordan-Hare, head coach Jon Sumrall slammed his team's lack of discipline, warning that sloppy penalties could derail Florida's undefeated season.
The Florida Gators won't go under the radar for the rest of the season after beating Auburn on the road in Week 3.
The Gators offense was rolling on Saturday as Florida beat the Tigers 44-39 in front of 88,043 fans at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Florida outgained Auburn in total yards 495-373. The Gators controlled the clock with a possession time of 39:16. They made all three of their fourth-down conversions.
However, the Gators did have a glaring problem against Auburn. Florida committed 16 penalties for 138 yards compared to Auburn's six penalties for 65 yards.
During his postgame news conference on Saturday, Sumrall said Florida needed to clean up their disciplining, warning the team they wouldn't win another game with 16 penalties.
"It's always good to win," Sumrall said, via video posted by Gainesville.com. "We still have a lot to improve upon. That's not our best football. We're going to get there. We got so much to work on to improve. The penalties were out of control.
"I mean, 16 penalties. We won't win another game all year if we do that again. Not one more game. And so I got to get it cleaned up. As the staff got to get cleaned up. We got to play with more discipline. I didn't agree with all of them, but still, I'm not going to let our guys off the hook. That's inexcusable."
Running back Jadan Baugh was the star of the show for Florida. He gained 162 yards rushing and three scores on 26 carries. The Gators improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in SEC play.
The Gators entered the season unranked. That should change before Week 4 after beating Auburn on Saturday.
The schedule won't get any easier for Florida anytime soon. Next week, the Gators will host a No. 8 Ole Miss team that beat No. 7 LSU 32-24 on Saturday night.
Florida will have to play at its best to knock off the Rebels. That means committing fewer penalties and having a strong defense.
Auburn quarterback Byrum Brown put up 271 yards passing, three touchdowns, and one interception against Florida's defense. (The Tigers only had a time of possession of 20:44.)
Trinidad Chambliss will provide a whole new level of challenge for Florida next week.
