After the Colts pivot to Daniel Jones, the dynamic dual-threat playmaker at Florida seeks a fresh start in New York to revive his career alongside the Jets' elite weaponry.
The Indianapolis Colts appear to be done with the Anthony Richardson experiment, signing Daniel Jones to a contract extension this offseason after a solid first year with the team.
As for Richardson, the Colts were letting him participate in OTAs this spring while trying to find a home for the former Florida quarterback.
Richardson was a standout for the Gators in his final season in 2022, throwing for 2,549 yards, 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions and adding another 654 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground.
His play at Florida prompted the Colts to take him with the No. 4 pick in 2023. However, he's never been a fit for Indianapolis and could do better with a change of scenery.
Per Jason La Canfora of SportsBoom, Richardson is seen as a potential option for the New York Jets to trade for this offseason after he recovers from an eye injury.
"And former Colts first-round pick Anthony Richardson is another possible option later in the summer as well," he wrote. "Richardson was available in trade earlier this offseason but was dealing with an eye injury and didn’t command much attention.
"However, Colts starting quarterback Daniel Jones is progressing more rapidly than expected from season-ending surgery, and while Richardson is on better terms with the Colts now after demanding a trade, things have been quite rough for him there since being drafted, and he welcomed a change of scenery."
While his career is in the crossroads, Richardson is trying to improve his skills before he gets a second opportunity.
"Really, everything, mainly my mechanics and my footwork, still," Richardson said during OTAs, via USA Today.
"I'm just trying to make sure I'm consistent with that, and then I'm trying to take another step into like diving into the playbook a little bit more and just becoming an OC kind of."
Richardson showed impressive athletic ability during his time with the Gators, but he needed to land with a team who could develop the raw passer. For whatever reason, things haven't worked out with the Colts.
The Jets could be an intriguing destination for Richardson, as the team is loaded with talent at receiver with Garrett Wilson and Omar Cooper Jr. to pair alongside rookie tight end Kenyon Sadiq.
