The 2026 college football season will mark a new age of Florida Gators’ football, as head coach Jon Sumrall will look to restore the program to its prime in his first season.

Sumrall and his coaching staff did an excellent job of utilizing the transfer portal this offseason by signing a total of 29 players. And thanks to his incredible efforts upon his arrival in Gainesville, the Gators have one of the best position groups heading into the upcoming season.

In a recent article ranking the top SEC wide receiver rooms heading into the 2026 season, Texas Longhorns’ beat writer Thomas Jones ranked the Gators’ room as the second-best in the Conference.

“While the Gators’ trio of Dallas Wilson, Vernell Brown and Eric Singleton may not quite approach the talent level in Austin, it still ranks among the best in the nation,” Jones wrote. “The 5-10, 180-pound Singleton followed Coleman out of Auburn and gives Florida a savvy and a slippery veteran who has grabbed at least 48 catches in each of his first three seasons despite pedestrian quarterback play. His presence will open things up for promising sophomores Brown and Wilson, who lit up Texas last season for 111 yards and two touchdowns on six catches.”

While the Gators’ passing game in 2025 was hampered by subpar quarterback play, it was clear that the freshman pass-catching duo of Vernell Brown III and Dallas Wilson would be an electric combination for the foreseeable future. Brown managed to lead Florida’s offense in receiving yards with 512 yards on 40 receptions, while Wilson became a late-season riser, finishing with 12 receptions for 174 yards and three touchdowns.

However, despite the program featuring a young core of wide receivers for this upcoming season, the loss of J. Michael Sturdivant and Eugene Wilson III became a concern for Gators fans this offseason. But luckily for the fanbase, offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner was able to dip into the transfer portal and land one of his former wide receivers from his time with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Eric Singleton Jr., this offseason.

After entering the transfer portal and landing with the Auburn Tigers in 2025, Singleton saw a decline in his production, tallying 543 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 58 receptions in the program’s lackluster offense. Still, his ability to stretch the field will be a significant help for Faulkner’s plan of attack in 2026 and is set to be the perfect veteran pass catcher for the Gators.

The hype surrounding Florida’s offensive weapons heading into the upcoming season continues to grow, but the main question this summer is clear: who will be the quarterback in 2026?

Currently, the battle for the starting position is between sophomore Tramell Jones Jr. and Georgia Tech transfer Aaron Philo. While many believe Philo’s experience under Faulkner could give him an advantage this offseason, the outcome will be determined based on who gives Florida the best opportunity to win games in 2026.
