Florida Gators head coach Jon Sumrall didn't mince his words after the loss to Missouri.

The Florida Gators got a reality check on Saturday in Columbia, being humbled by the Missouri Tigers.

Florida lost 45-17 on the road to the Tigers, seeing the team drop its first game of the new season. The Gators couldn't do anything to stop the Missouri offense, with head coach Jon Sumrall's team being gashed throughout.

After the game, Sumrall didn't mince his words about the performance that his team put together. But the head coach took ownership of the game, which should bode well for his players moving forward.

“Embarrassing performance in every phase, and that starts with me,” Sumrall said.

Sumrall knows that this wasn't the best outing for his club, but his taking responsibility shows the type of coach he is. The players will appreciate this, even if they were the ones who went on the field to put together the game.

One of the big issues for the Gators in the game was the lack of performance from star running back Jadan Baugh. Baugh was held to just 13 yards on 12 rushes, with the Missouri defense stifling the run game all day long.

The star entered the game with a lot of Heisman Trophy buzz around him, but this performance may have hurt his chances. Baugh still has put together a strong showing to open the year, with him rushing for 613 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Baugh will have a chance to get back on track next week against the South Carolina Gamecocks, as will the entire team.

Entering the game, the Gators were flying high, coming off a win against the top-ranked Ole Miss Rebels. But Florida fell victim to a trap game, following the high of a massive win.

This just shows the parity that college football has, especially in the tough SEC conference, putting each week into the spotlight. But the Gators are still a good team, and this performance could just be a minor setback.

Florida still has everything in front of them, with games against the Texas Longhorns and Georgia Bulldogs still left on the schedule. If the Gators are able to get wins in those games, a berth in the College Football Playoff could be earned.

While the loss to Missouri is very frustrating for this group, it's not the end of their playoff chances. But the Gators will have to show what type of team they are now that they have been punched in the mouth for the first time this season.
