Could this AFC powerhouse be the perfect fit for Florida Gators' star defensive tackle Caleb Banks in the 2026 NFL Draft?
As we quickly approach the 2026 NFL Draft, Florida Gators fans are excited to see where the program’s former stars will be selected in the highly anticipated event.
One of the top names for the Gators in the upcoming draft is star defensive tackle Caleb Banks, who is projected to be selected within the first two rounds. While he missed a majority of his final season with Florida due to a lingering injury, Banks proved to be a terrific interior threat for the Gators in his first two seasons with the program.
During the stretch, the 23-year-old recorded 40 tackles, 8.5 tackles for losses, and 5.5 sacks, putting him on many NFL teams’ radars. Now, with the draft being less than a month away, it’s clear that many organizations could benefit from selecting Banks.
However, the Houston Texans could be one of the most intriguing fits for the rising star in this year’s draft.
Why Banks Fits in Houston

Mandatory Credit: Bob Kupbens-Imagn ImagesThe Texans’ defense was easily one of the best units during the 2025-26 NFL season, leading the league in yards allowed per game (277.2) and ranking third in total turnovers (29). With a stout pass rush duo of Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter, Houston is easily one of the top defenses in the NFL, but there is one area of the defense that could use additional help ahead of the upcoming season.
While the Texans have managed to create one of the most lethal defensive end combinations, the interior of the front four could use a massive anchor to solidify the group. Banks’ ability to be a game-wrecker in both the pass and run game would make him exactly what the AFC South franchise needs to take the unit to the next level.
Unfortunately for Houston, the main priority of the upcoming draft will be addressing the offensive line, as general manager Nick Caserio has moved on from both Tytus Howard and Juice Scruggs this offseason. However, the signing of veteran offensive tackle Trent Brown could open the door for the Texans to take Banks early in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Caserio and the front office hold the No. 28 and the No. 38 pick in this year’s draft, with both picks being in range to take the young SEC product in April.
