No. 3 Florida State will head to arch rival Florida with multiple streaks at stake. Their shutout streak and eight consecutive wins vs Florida will be on the line when the Seminoles head to Gainesville.
No. 3 Florida State women's soccer will travel to Gainesville to play its archrival, the Florida Gators on August 23 at Donald R. Dizney Stadium.
Florida State, the reigning national champions, are 3-0-0 on the season after defeating Stetson, Florida International, and Florida Atlantic. They have beaten Florida in each of their last eight matches, and are currently riding a 36-game regular-season non-conference win streak. They are 18-13 against Florida all-time. The Gators are 1-1-0 on the season after defeating Coastal Carolina, and losing to Central Florida.
Head Coach Brian Pensky returned four starters from his 2025 national championship team, and brought in 16 first-year players to fill his roster. 10 players from his 2025 team went on to sign professional contracts with seven currently playing in the NWSL.
Pensky brought in 11 players from the transfer portal, four high school players, and one junior college player. So far almost half of Florida State's goals this year have come from first-year players.
Florida State has shut out its last five opponents going back to the 2025 College Cup (soccer's final four).Sophomore goalkeeper Kate Ockene was the 2025 NCAA All-Tournament Defensive Most Outstanding Player, and she hasn't slowed down as she has been the anchor in Florida State’s five-game shutout streak.
The Gators will lean on returning All-SEC performers Hailey Santiago and Isabel Bostic this season. Transfer portal additions Alex Bayouth from Stephen F Austin and Georgia Cousins from South Alabama will also be called on to lead the Gators.
This season Florida State has scored eight goals compared to the Gators’ six goals. The Gators will need to convert more shots into goals against a stingy Florida State defense. Florida has taken 22 shots on goal and allowed seven shots on goal.
Florida State has taken 15 shots on goal, while only allowing four shots on goal. Florida State converts 26.7% of its shots to goals, compared to the Gators, which is only converting 14%.
For unranked Florida, the match against Pensky's team might seem lopsided on paper, but Florida is a team that finds ways to get off many shot attempts. With one team being strong defensively (Florida State), and with one team finding ways to get off a ton of shots (Florida), this match can be a shootout, or a great defensive game.
Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET, this game will be played live on the SEC Network.
