Florida State football is hosting big-time recruits this weekend. Perhaps a basketball game is on deck too for the potential future Seminole players.
FSU can use this holiday weekend to finally get into the win column in Atlantic Coast Conference play. Except the 'Noles face a Wake Forest team above .500 for this Saturday evening tilt inside Donald L. Tucker Center.
FSU also will aim to maintain its lead after squandering one versus Syracuse in its last game. They also surely want to avoid a repeat of the North Carolina State game.
Here now is Fernie Ruano with a preview:
It’s safe to assume Seminoles first-year men’s basketball head coach Luke Loucks, who admittedly didn’t get to bed until 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning on the heels of Florida State’s 94-86 loss at Syracuse just hours earlier,
hasn't been getting much sleep lately.
The Seminoles (7-10, 0-4), off to its worst start in ACC play since Leonard Hamilton’s first season as head coach, have lost four straight games overall and face two in-conference road games in a five-day span next week.
However, a small glimmer of hope shines over the Donald L. Tucker Center, if you believe most oddsmakers at US Sportsbooks, as Florida State (+1.5, -110) is currently installed as a short home underdog vs. the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (1-3) for their nationally televised (ESPN2), 6:00 p.m. tipoff in Tallahassee, Florida.
Florida State, +102 on the moneyline, is 7-3 at home.
The over/under is currently 168.5 points, per FanDuel Sportsbook.
Loucks, still trying to instill a long-foundation while getting his team to play with a revved up tenacity for 40 minutes or more, almost got his wish three nights ago as the Seminoles.
However, the Seminoles struggled to keep Orange star forward Donnie Freeman from getting to the rim for much of the night, especially down the stretch, resulting in a 94-86 setback as Syracuse shot 57.9 % from the floor and 40.7% from three to help erase a three-point Florida State lead with a 12-2 run to go ahead 76-69 with 7:42 remaining in the game.
Kobe MaGee, shooting 37.7% from beyond the arc in his last eight games, is listed as questionable, as per the latest ACC injury report.
Florida State, playing three of their next five games at home, are in Miami on Tuesday night.
Wake Forest F Juke Harris is averaging 20.4 points per game in 31.9 minutes a contest.
Myles Colvin is averaging 15.0 points per game in his previous seven games— all as a starter.
Demon Deacons vs. Seminoles betting analysis:
The Seminoles, who shoot the basketball relatively well against the Orange, but just couldn’t overcome the athleticism of Donnie Freeman and JJ Starling down the stretch,
are getting close to scoring their first conference win of the season. I can really sense it, coming.
And the short line, despite all the Seminoles troubles, gives me even more optimism that tonight is the night that the ‘Noles break through.
