The Georgia standout brings elite production and Ivy League brains to Tallahassee, choosing the Seminoles over 26 other offers to become the defensive cornerstone of the 2027 class.
Another talented recruit from Georgia has announced his commitment to Mike Norvell and the Florida State Seminoles. 3-star linebacker CJ Ohuabunwa has pledged his football services to the Seminoles after a hastily scheduled official visit. Ohuabunwa liked what he saw and became the 12th prospect in the 2027 class for Florida State.
At Greater Atlanta Christian School in 2025, Ohuabunwa terrorized opposing offenses from his linebacker position. At 6-foot, 210 pounds, Ohuabunwa racked up 124 tackles, eight tackles for loss, two sacks, four pass breakups, one forced fumble, and an interception.
With 27 offers, Ohuabunwa chose the Seminoles over such ACC schools as Louisville, Virginia Tech, Duke, Georgia Tech, and Wake Forest; an offer from the defending national champion Indiana Hoosiers, and Michigan State. He also starred in the classroom and earned scholarship offers from Ivy League members Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and Pennsylvania.
Ohuabunwa represents the seventh defensive player in the Seminoles 2027 class, and the second linebacker, along with 3-star Olrick Johnson III. He is also the second prospect that Louisville has failed to flip from the Seminoles.
The Cardinals pulled out all the stops to try to flip 3-star safety Jemari Foreman. But Foreman had been committed to the Seminoles since September 2025 and did not waver on his commitment to play for Florida State.
In an interview on warchant.com after his official visit, Ohuabunwa said, “You think about the tradition at the school, you think about what the school is about, what it’s done, that’s somewhere I want to be.”
As he enters his senior season, Ohuabunwa will watch from afar as some talented linebackers will be on display at Doak Campbell Stadium this fall. Transfer linebacker Chris Jones (from Southern Miss) arrives in Tallahassee with a mean disposition and a penchant for making bone-rattling tackles.
Last season at Southern Miss, Jones ranked No. 7 in the nation with 10 tackles per game on his way to totaling 135 stops, 9.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, and an interception.
The Seminoles will benefit greatly from that kind of production in 2026, and Jones could be a role model for Ohuabunwa to show the kind of linebacker play that will be expected from the young recruit once he dons the garnet and gold.
With Ohuabunwa’s pledge, Florida State continues its hot streak on the recruiting trail that has turned into a full-on blaze since the first week of June. The Seminoles are still in the hunt for two four-star defenders: Ta’Shawn Poole and Sam LeJeune. LeJeune has said he will announce his decision on June 24.
Ohuabunwa is yet another talented piece of a defensive puzzle that could pay dividends in the near future for the Seminoles.
