Link Jarrett adds defensive specialist Callum Early to a revamped Seminoles roster, bolstering a ten-man transfer class aimed at fueling a deep 2027 College World Series run.

Florida State baseball coach Link Jarrett continues to bolster his roster for next season by gaining a commitment from infielder Callum Early, formerly of the Texas Longhorns.

For Early, moving to Florida State puts him at his third school in as many seasons. He saw limited action this past season for the Longhorns, playing in just 11 games for a Texas team that appeared in the College World Series.

Last season at Liberty was the most productive thus far in Early’s young college career. While with the Flames, Early started 28 games. At the plate, Early batted .295 with two home runs, 15 RBI, six doubles and scored 23 runs.

Against Middle Tennessee State, Early collected a season-high five hits and two RBI in a Liberty victory.

Early was a member of the All-Hoover Vacuum team, posting a .972 fielding percentage, which was the second-highest on the team. He committed only three errors that season. As a high school star, Early was a four-year letterman and served as a team captain during his senior season.

Early joins a transfer class that is now 10 strong. As the infield goes, Catcher Coy Clements, a JUCO All-American in 2025, leads the class. First baseman Nick Barron and shortstop Cooper Malamazian are packed and headed to Tallahassee. In addition, Early will be joined by designated hitter Jackson Mckenzie.

On the mound, Early will be a backstop for pitchers Cayden Suchy, Sebastian Lippman, Isaiah Shayter, Otto Espinosa and Alex Philpott. Philpott was drafted in the 16th round by the Tampa Bay Rays, so it remains to be seen if he signs with the Rays, or comes to Tallahassee for one more year of college baseball.

The Major League Draft, the transfer portal, and natural attrition gutted the Seminoles roster, specifically the pitching staff. It is no surprise that Jarrett recruited the pitchers listed above. Jarrett’s entire starting rotation was drafted into the major leagues. ACC Pitcher of the Year and Seminoles ace Wes Mendes went to the Houston Astros in the second round. Trey Beard heard his name called by the Miami Marlins, and Bryson Moore’s phone rang in the seventh round, and it was the Pittsburgh Pirates on the line.

Early will get to play with returning players like outfielders John Stuetzer and Brody DeLamielleure, infielder Cal Fisher, and ace reliever John Abraham. Jarrett has assembled a nucleus of talented baseball players.

After posting a 40-19 record last season and losing out in their own regional, the Seminoles have unfinished business and will be looking to make a deep run in the NCAA tournament in 2027, and potentially to the College World Series.
