The Seminoles of Florida State, fresh off a sweep of No. 12 Wake Forest, made quick work of the Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday night in another run-rule victory by FSU. It was their second win by run-rule in the last four games, and their seventh of the season.
There was no luck of the Irish involved on St. Patty’s Day at Dick Howser Stadium, just good, old-fashioned elite-level baseball on display by Florida State in a 12-1 victory. It was FSU’s 11th win over Bethune-Cookman in the series history. The Seminoles remain undefeated at home.
The pitching trio of Cooper Whited, Brodie Purcell and Cole Stokes combined to no-hit the Wildcats and rang up nine strikeouts as Bethune-Cookman went 0-18 at the plate. Purcell got the win for the Seminoles, and he improved to 1-0 on the season.
Whited got the start for the Seminoles and recorded six strikeouts and one walk, and allowed just one earned run over three innings.
No. 11 FSU, on the other hand, collected nine hits on the night, led by Myles Bailey’s three-run homer. Bailey went 2-for-4 (including a double) with four runs batted in, which matched his season-high.
Over the last four games, the Seminoles’ pitching staff has recorded 41 strikeouts and allowed just seven runs.
Noah Sheffield, Eli Putnam and Brayden Dowd also drove in runs for the Seminoles.
For Bailey, a preseason All-American selection, it was his ninth home run and 24th RBI of the season.
