A devastating injury sidelines star first baseman Bailey. The Seminoles now face the challenge of continuing their season without their leading slugger.

In the bottom of the eighth inning in Game 2 against the Duke, Florida State’s star first baseman Myles Bailey’s season came to an end.

While sliding into second base, Bailey suffered a significant lower leg injury that will cause him to miss the remainder of the season.

As the last little bit of oxygen was sucked out of Dick Howser Stadium, Bailey remained on the ground in immense pain as medical staff applied an air cast to his leg and he was removed from the field on a stretcher.

The Seminoles escaped with a 12-11 victory over the Blue Devils, but the thrill of victory paled in comparison to the agony of losing a player of Bailey’s caliber.

Florida State coach Link Jarrett released a statement Sunday, saying Bailey had gone through surgery to repair the damage.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Myles for a full, speedy recovery. I have not coached a player with a better combination of work ethic, character, and skill," Jarrett said. "Our medical team was fully engaged from the moment he was injured. He will recover from this injury and return to his dynamic form."

Before the injury, Bailey was hitting .363 and led the Seminoles with 13 home runs and 33 RBI. He posted a .883 slugging percentage and had already collected 35 walks.

Before the season opener, Bailey was named a preseason All-American candidate.

A hometown product out of Lincoln High School in Tallahassee, Bailey was ranked in the preseason among the top 100 major-league prospects (95th) by MLB.com. A top-150 prospect as a prep star, he was drafted in the 20th round by the Chicago White Sox in 2024, but chose to play with the Seminoles.

A coiled spring of power from the left side of the plate, Bailey earned first-team Freshman All-American honors in 2025 by all three baseball outlets: D1 Baseball, Perfect Game and Baseball America. He launched 19 home runs beyond the outfield wall in ballparks throughout the ACC and recorded a .663 slugging percentage.

The Seminoles now face two choices. Let the loss of Bailey consume them and their season, or use it as a catalyst for inspiration to carry on the legacy of Seminole baseball and play winning baseball in honor of Bailey.

Redshirt senior Eli Putnam stepped in at first base for the Seminoles.

Game 3 against Duke is on Sunday.
