Inclement weather prevented a potential 3-0 start for Florida State baseball.
But that's not preventing us from mentioning three early takeaways of this year's team.
The Seminoles got off to a 2-0 start and won Saturday's contest early against the Dukes. Here's what has stood out so far:
1 -- Myles Bailey Will Spark Conference Player of the Year Chatter
Bailey set the tone on Friday by blasting his solo home run over to right field. And he did that with his team facing two early outs.
He emerged as the tone setter for what's expected to become an Atlantic Coast Conference title threat and postseason contender.
But Bailey wasn't through. He's chipped two hits in back-to-back games already.
Consistency goes a long way. Bailey delivering multiple two-hits or more games will ignite ACC Player of the Year chatter.
2 -- Perhaps Sunday Cancellation is Blessing in Disguise
There are fans groaning about the fact FSU could've squeezed in a double header on Saturday.
But one, that would've distorted Valentine's Day plans for members of the Seminoles. And two, here's the real reason why it's a blessing in disguise...
Head coach Link Jarrett can rest the arms on the mound.
The last thing Jarrett wants are pitchers who burn out toward the end of the season. Jarrett can rest the likes of Cade O'Leary, Cooper Whited, Cole Stokes, etc. Jarrett needs his arms in tact for when it's time to face the ACC slate.
3 -- One Pitcher is Un-Hittable When on his Game
Stokes is one capable of delivering a hot streak on the hill.
The Oregon transfer is already showing signs of adjusting nicely to Tallahassee. Stokes struck out two batters in the seventh to help close things out.
Stokes brings potential stardom that'll create ACC First-Team talk. He surrendered only nine hits and eight runs through 20.1 innings last season. Stokes forced 16 walks while striking out 39 batters -- allowing only a .130 batting average against batters facing him.
He's improved from his freshman totals at Eugene -- when he allowed 11 runs (all earned), 10 hits with seven strikeouts through 8.2 innings. Batters received a .303 average facing him when he took to the mound.
Jarrett may have the most impactful transfer for 2026 here. And this is also a team that brought in an even more high-profile transfer in Trey Beard.
