Off Week Elation: It's a Great Saturday to be a Seminole cover image

There is a peaceful joy that comes with an off week in football when your team is doing well. For No. 10 Florida State, that joy is pure elation on this off week Saturday.

If you're a Seminole fan, today almost couldn't be better. You're undefeated. You're the talk of college football. You can't lose today. Your biggest rival is floundering. And you get to enjoy a full slate of games without even a modicum of stress, knowing that no bad things can come of the day.

FSU is 2-0 following an upset of Alabama to open the season, followed by an offensive showcase in the 77-3 rout of East Texas A&M in Week Two. The Noles skyrocketed from unranked to Top 10 in the space of eight days.

What a ride the early season has been. What a difference it is from this time a year ago.

In fact, the difference isn't just stark - it's almost poetic. The exact reverse of the 2024 has taken place.

The Seminoles started last season No. 10 in the country before going 0-2 and falling out of the polls entirely. FSU then went into an off week after two games, scratching their heads and feeling the pressure to turn things around over the break.

One year later, the ship has been righted. Instead of wallowing in their week off, FSU fans are celebrating. There may even be a chance for some good old gloating and schadenfreude, with rivals Florida and Miami both playing ranked teams today.

If head coach Mike Norvell had been asked three weeks ago what his dream start to the season would look like, he likely would have offered a brief, coach-speak response. Some version of: "2-0. Healthy."

Health is yet another reason this Saturday is so sweet for FSU. Not only have the last two weeks gone well, but the Seminoles came into the break in perfect health. There are no major injuries. There haven't even been reports of minor issues - no tweaked ankles or sore shoulders to speak of.

As great as the opening two weeks were for FSU, there is no reason for Noles fans not to believe it will continue. With Kent State as the next opponent on the schedule, it's a safe bet those fans are right.

There are trials in any season - even undefeated ones. No college football season is all sunshine and daisies, and that's part of what makes it so exciting.

Today, however, unbridled joy runs through every Garnet and Gold household. Enjoy the stress-free Saturday, FSU fans. It's a great day to be a Seminole.
