DJ Lagway considering jumping from Florida to rival Florida State was already attention-grabbing enough. But now an Atlantic Coast Conference foe of the Seminoles' adds a new twist to his new recruitment.
Lagway is indeed at Tallahassee and visiting with the 'Noles, with Chris Nee of 247Sports capturing the moment.
However, one college football insider revealed where Lagway is heading after taking in FSU. And it's a rival that helped ruin the Seminoles during the 2025 season.
ESPN insider Pete Thamel revealed which school hosts Lagway next.
"Former Florida quarterback DJ Lagway will head to Virginia on a visit this evening after his Florida State visit wraps up. Lagway intends to take a handful more visits," Thamel posted on the social media website X, formerly Twitter.
They're the same Cavaliers team that shocked the previously highly-ranked Seminoles on a Friday night in Charlottesville as fans immediately rushed the field. Even trampling over Squirrel Wright in the end zone of that 46-38 Virginia win over then No. 8 Florida State.
Virginia still presents reasons why it looks attractive to Lagway. Starter Chandler Morris is 25 years of age but there's still theories he could return for one more year. Morris arrived to UVA as a graduate transfer and got the Cavs to play for the ACC title this past season. Lagway could enter the picture as the contingency plan for head coach Tony Elliott in the event Morris isn't granted another year.
Meanwhile, UVA lost one other QB to the portal in backup Daniel Kaelin over the weekend. Perhaps his departure points to him knowing Morris will earn an extra year or landing Lagway is the highest priority for the Cavaliers' staff. Kaelin became lost in the deep QB room at UVA in the end.
Virginia does have 2026 signing Ely Hamrick coming on board. The three-star hails from Crest High School in Shelby, N.C. plus turned down an early offer from Kentucky for Virginia. It's doubtful UVA would entertain starting a true freshman QB, however. Especially following a conference title run.
Lagway to Florida State remains a strong possibility. He's one of three reported QBs Norvell and the Seminoles are targeting.
Anthony Colandrea of UNLV arrived on Sunday to visit with FSU. Colandrea is considered one of the more coveted CFB talents in this portal cycle. But like Lagway, he's also supposed to visit an ACC rival after FSU -- as Colandrea will visit Georgia Tech.
Ashton Daniels of Auburn is one more visiting the 'Noles. Daniels knows the ACC well -- as he played at Stanford during its first season in the conference. But again, signs point to a two-person race between Lagway and Colandrea -- even with ACC rivals lurking.
