There's Golden State talent who look like prime fits for the Seminoles. Including this big target from Ventura County.
Florida State will need to eventually replace Duce Robinson by 2027.
The Seminoles don't necessarily need to hit up the transfer portal to find the next "Robinson," though. Even though the big 6-foot-6 wide receiver came via USC.
FSU has another reason to trek out to California. Big wide receiver/tight end hybrid Charles Davis out of Westlake High is that reason.
What I've seen from Charles Davis
Size already makes him a mismatch on the football field, since Davis is an imposing 6-foot-5, 200-pounds and still growing.
But his speed at that size is more astonishing.
He runs the 100 meter dash in 11.44 seconds while carrying that frame. That same speed shows up on Fridays.
Davis is a dangerous run-after-catch threat once he has the ball. He's not just someone who can leave defenders catching up, though.
He's tough to bring down on first contact even if a defender aims for the shins and ankles. Davis forces the second or third defender to tussle him down.
Potential fit at Florida State
He'd become more than a "Robinson" for FSU.
Davis is projected to grow into a tight end role down the road. That makes him the perfect red zone option for head coach Mike Norvell in the future if the head coach becomes assertive in going after Davis.
Norvell and wide receivers coach/offensive coordinator Tim Harris Jr. need someone to step into the "Robinson" role of handling the red zone/possession work after 2026. Davis looks prime for that role.
He'd give FSU both a WR and TE for this 2027 class.
Areas of Concern Involving Davis
Westlake High delivered a great 2025 and brings a storied history. The Warriors even went undefeated during the regular season after going winless the previous year. Davis's presence helped re-galvanize a down program.
But the Warriors feasted mostly on opponents that play in a far lesser division than them. Here's the dilemma that gets presented involving Davis: Can he adjust to a higher level of competition?
Cornerbacks at the college level become more fundamentally sound and cerebral. Most CBs especially in the Atlantic Coast Conference will know how to counter larger framed wideouts. They'll make big targets like Davis work for his grabs.
But that's not the only concern with Davis.
Is Florida State too Late?
Davis unveiled the schools he's warm on via 247Sports: SMU, UCLA, Michigan, Cal and Oregon.
Norvell, Harris and other members of the FSU staff will need to work overtime and come up with an even more aggressive sales pitch to win over Davis. Especially with two ACC teams already in the mix for him.
Obviously in recruiting a lot can still happen and recruits tend to change their minds. But again, he fits the mold of what FSU wants to do on offense and brings potential to become the latest big target in Tallahassee. It's just a matter of if the Noles make one more pursuit at him.
