The Seminoles may have room to add one more roster piece, this one a past Atlantic Coast Conference rival.
Florida State basketball found itself needing to address the roster before the portal closed Tuesday. All after Thomas Bassong suddenly bolted.
Now the Seminoles are hosting a past rival big man, who could help top off the FSU roster.
Wake Forest forward Cooper Schwieger is heading to Tallahassee to visit with head coach Luke Loucks and company, per Noles247.
Schwieger's name surfaces after the sudden turn of events with the Seminoles roster. Bassong originally stated his intentions to remain with the Noles. However, multiple reports revealed that Bassong and his agency never came to a written agreement contract wise. Bassong turned his paper work in on April 21, the deadline to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal.
Meanwhile, Schwieger has become quite the college basketball journeyman.
The Overland Park, Kansas native started out at Valparaiso in 2023 before leaving ahead of the 2025 season. He spent last season with the Demon Deacons.
He never started in the opener due to an injury, though. Yet he appeared in the final 34 games for Wake Forest, featuring 11 starts and averaging 20.2 minutes a night.
Schwieger shot 50.4% from field goal range, but also handed the Deacons a 3-point option by shooting 34.3% from the perimeter. FSU should also love his high free throw percentage, as he hit 73.7% from the white stripe.
He averaged 5.1 points per game along with 2.5 rebounds, and 0.9 assists per game. He ranked second on the team with 20 blocks, which hands Loucks a rim protector should he take in Schwieger.
Schwieger has been highly recruited before via the portal. He once drew interest from Clemson, Kansas, Michigan and Northwestern when he entered in '25.
He left Valpo averaging 15.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, plus averaged two blocks a night against his opponents. Schwieger went on to win Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year in 2024.
Schiweger could help fill a vital role for FSU post Bassong.
His departure leaves a hole in the low post. Bassong originally looked ready to handle the scoring and perimeter shooting at small forward.
Granted, FSU helped swiftly address his departure by nabbing Elisee Assui from Italy. The international talent presents his own versatile scoring skillset to the Noles and played for Italy's national team.
FSU boosted the backcourt before Bassong's exit with landing Kameron Taylor of UNC-Asheville and the brother duo of Anthony and Amare Robinson, the former from Missouri and the later transferring from Tallahassee State College.
