While the Seminoles landed the past College Football Playoff performer, FSU lost out on one target who'll head to the SEC.

Florida State pilfered its first key offensive weapon for 2026 by landing Quintrevion Wisner of Texas Monday

But as FSU gained the past College Football Playoff performer, the Seminoles lost out on landing another portal target who lands with a 2025 CFP team.

Hollywood Smothers of North Carolina State chose Alabama in the College Football Transfer Portal, he confirmed to Hayes Fawcett of On3/Rivals. Smothers' decision came hours after Wisner chose to line up in the Seminoles' backfield.

Smothers rushed for 1,128 yards and scored seven touchdowns for NC State. Fawcett called him one of the top players in the portal class.

Smothers himself reacted to moving on to Alabama -- posting a two-word "All God" reaction to his new CFB move.

Smothers, though, was on the Florida State radar before Monday's decision. He was among three different RBs who took a trip to Tallahassee to check out the FSU campus.

Louisiana RB Zylan Perry visited as well. It's not known where Perry will end up -- though signs point to Tennessee out of the Southeastern Conference landing him soon.

Smothers, meanwhile, heads to a team that was smothered by Indiana inside the Rose Bowl. The speedy back instantly boosts a running game that got manhandled against the top-ranked Hoosiers on New Year's Day.

Wisner, meanwhile, brings one more year of playing eligibility to FSU and head coach Mike Norvell. Florida State fans likely will welcome Wisner's versatility -- as he not long ago caught 44 passes for 311 yards in 2024. That production came when Texas went on its own CFP run in 2024 with Quinn Ewers behind center.

Wisner's arrival comes as Gavin Sawchuk heads away from FSU. Sawchuk opted for the portal before '26 -- making his decision on Dec. 28.

The former Longhorns star isn't the only notable portal addition for the 'Noles.

North Dakota State long snapper Caleb Bowers committed to Florida State a few hours after Wisner's decision. Brendan Sonnone of 247Sports adds that the 'Noles won't be through with adding to the special teams unit.

"Bowers' addition gets the long snapper in place. FSU must still find a punter to replace Mac Chiumento, who has transferred to Texas, and it will have a competition at place kicker among rising redshirt sophomore Jake Weinberg -- who struggled at the end of the season -- redshirt freshman Brunno Reus," Sonnone wrote.

FSU still has other positions to address -- notably quarterback to join Wisner.
