The cornerback is nearing 40 offers including being "warm" on a pair of Atlantic Coast Conference schools. But here's how the Seminoles are winning him over.
Florida State football entered the picture for a top 100 cornerback recruit in a big way.
Nashville standout Romel Koon of Tennessee powerhouse Brentwood Academy took in Tallahassee around Easter. FSU won him over, he tells Tom Loy of 247Sports.
"The overall trip was amazing," said Koon. "I loved meeting the coaching staff and watching practice. Also, viewing the campus. It was beautiful."
Koon ranks as the nation's No. 89 overall CB per 247Sports. His conversations with CB coach Blue Adams won him over.
"I definitely learned a lot from the cornerbacks coach, Blue Adams. We got on the board, and he got me better with that, as well as understanding the game more," he said.
He also received a warm welcome from head coach Mike Norvell.
"My thoughts on Norvell are that he is amazing," he continued. "I love his intensity and the passion he brings to the field. He always has a smile on his face, and he is a winner. You can't beat that."
"Florida State definitely increased heavily on my list," said Koon. "I am loving the tribe and can't wait to get back up for an official visit. I loved the love and support they showed me."
Koon ranks as a three-star but is armed with 36 offers. FSU also has defensive coordinator Tony White and safeties coach Evan Cooper doing their part to recruit him.
Loy believes the 6-foot, 155-pounder has room to grow ahead of his senior season.
"Koon projects as one of the more intriguing defensive backs in the 2027 class. He has a terrific blend of length, fluidity, and competitive instincts that have already attracted 30+ scholarship offers from major programs," Loy said.
Koon still need bulk, though, ahead of playing collegiately.
"At his current size, although slight in build, Koon shows the strength and athletic baseline that college coaches covet," Loy said.
Yet Koon's skillset as a cornerback make him intriguing for the next level.
"He displays smooth transitions, a natural feel for route recognition, and the ability to stay patient at the line of scrimmage," Loy said. "He has the traits that help him mirror receivers and close space efficiently. While still developing physically, his combination of length, movement skills, and early production suggests a high ceiling as a press‑man or versatile outside corner at the next level."
Koon isn't the only highly intriguing CB FSU is pursuing. Towering 6-foot-4 DB Jeremiah Proctor is another to watch on the recruiting trail for the Seminoles.
