One of the nation's top 2027 recruits, Sam LeJeune, visits Tallahassee. He's impressed by coaching and FSU's pursuit, but competition looms.

One of the ways Florida State football aims to build its 2027 class is by hosting prospects on campus, especially now, with spring football in full swing.

Zach Blostein of Noles247Sports reported Tuesday that FSU coach Mike Norvell and the Seminoles welcomed Sam LeJeune, the nation's No. 12 overall defensive lineman for the 2027 cycle, to Tallahassee last week.

"Sam LeJeune is a top-tier defensive target for Florida State this cycle and they were able to get him back on campus for one of their first spring practices last week," Blostein said.

But that's not all involving the Poplarville, Mississippi, talent.

"The Seminoles were an early offer for the Mississippi native and haven't let up in his recruitment since -- which continues to have them in good standing," Blostein said.

But Florida State faces competition. Blostein said it's a good sign FSU remains proactive in pursuing LeJeune and making him a priority.

"Other programs have entered the mix with him, specifically several SEC schools like Mississippi State, Texas A&M and Auburn. That will make FSU's chances of landing him more difficult, but it's a good sign that he has continued to visit campus and that made it a priority to get back to Tallahassee quickly this spring," Blostein said.

Defensive line coach Terrance Knighton is at the forefront of courting LeJeune over to Tallahassee. FSU is currently "warm" on LeJeune.

The 6-foot-3, 280-pounder got the chance to take in an FSU practice nearly a week ago and was impressed, which he shared to Chris Nee of 247sports. He especially liked how Knighton coaches.

"He's high-intensity. He's going to get on you, but he's also going to show dudes love, too," LeJeune said. "It was great, honestly."

LeJeune would rise as a pivotal interior presence if he chooses the Noles. FSU has been itching for a future interior star in the defensive trenches post Braden Fiske and more recently, Darrell Jackson Jr., who's now entering the NFL draft in April.

FSU sits at five verbal commits including four on the defensive side. But none represent the trenches. LeJeune can be the first if FSU pulls off the recruiting win.
