Florida State football sent four incoming transfers to the podium Wednesday morning. All to finally break their own silence on why they chose the Seminoles.
One is a prized offensive skill weapon bringing College Football Playoff experience in tow: Quintrevion "Tre" Wisner.
But the former Texas Longhorns star who played with Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning isn't just here to touch the ball. He wants to touch lives inside the locker room -- by immediately establishing himself as a captain.
Wisner expressed his desire to become captain while addressing the Tallahassee media for the first time since his transfer. He knows that wearing a "C" patch on his gameday uniform will be a challenge, though.
"I feel like it’s going to take a lot out of me to earn that title. But at the end of the day, it comes with respecting your teammate, respecting your program, respecting the community. And I feel like I’m willing to give that back to the community and program: Respect and love. And really just give it my all," Wisner explained.
He's also learning from past mistakes of going silent inside the Texas locker room.
"Truth be told, I feel like in my previous years, I've held myself back," Wisner said. "I've always been looked at as a leader, but I feel like in some way, form, or fashion, I kind of shied away from being a leader in certain aspects, whether it's on the field or off the field."
He's eyeing a renewed interest in becoming a leader -- and more than someone who can run and catch.
"I feel like it's not only because it's my last year, but because Coach [Mike] Norvell and the program helped me understand that time doesn't wait," he said. "You've got so much time on your hands, so many things you can accomplish in that time, so why not accomplish it?"
Outside of establishing himself as a new voice and leader by example, Wisner is honing in on his pro aspirations too.
“As I got more into my craft, I noticed that when you get to the [NFL], organizations don’t want running backs that can just run the ball,” Wisner said. “You have to be able to run the ball, catch the ball, block. So, I made an emphasis on catching more balls after practice. Really just honing in on the things that can help my craft more."
That work ethic will come in handy for a Seminoles team that went 5-7 last season -- and is itching to taste the CFP realm like Wisner did in Austin.
