Could the Seminoles have a new two-sport star on their hands? Lopez has turned heads on the football field.

Jasen Lopez is creating his own "March Madness" after the Florida State basketball season. The guard is impressing the football team during spring practices.

Lopez joined the team following the Seminoles' Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament run and decision to pass on the National Invitational Tournament (NIT). But the guard originally signed with head coach Mike Norvell and the football program for the 2026 class as a four-star addition.

Norvell pointed out Lopez and fellow first-year wide receiver Devin Carter have stepped up big, which he mentioned following the Seminoles' Tuesday practice.

"You start where you start and then you move up. When you're productive, no matter who you're going against, you get better opportunities," Norvell began. "Those guys, we're pushing them, and they're positioning themselves to be highly competitive in the rotation."

Then Norvell dropped these words that shows how far along the basketball player Lopez really is.

"Devin and Jasen—they're going to play," Norvell said.

That's huge news for a team that already returns Duce Robinson, who'll garner NFL Draft buzz this fall out of Tallahassee. Micahi Danzy is also back in the wide receiver rotation. Jayvan Boggs figures to also catch passes as well.

The aforementioned veterans, however, noticeably were resting on Tuesday. FSU is experimenting with load management for those players. Hence why Carter and Lopez earned more reps during the Tuesday session.

But with the continued development of the younger guys especially Lopez, FSU could present one of the ACC's deepest wide receiving groups this fall.

"They'd have to regress significantly from where they are now not to. I'm not saying they're first line, but they definitely belong in what we're asking them to do," Norvell said.

Lopez would spark conversations and comparisons to Charlie Ward if he continues this trajectory. Ward is renown for starring on the football field and basketball court during the early 1990s. He eventually won the Heisman Trophy as a star quarterback before embarking on an NBA career with the New York Knicks.

Lopez plays a far different position though. But he earned comparisons to past Miami Hurricanes star and favorite wide receiver of Cam Ward Xavier Restrepo. Lopez is lauded for his ability to separate distance wise from cornerbacks when running routes. He's also bringing his basketball hops to the field.
