The Seminoles wrapped up its famed recruiting weekend by inviting out past Florida State legends. Which helped win over longtime safety commit Mekhi Williams.
Conversations with Florida State legends all but secured Mekhi Williams' full commitment to the Seminoles.
The four-star safety is one of the longest tenured verbal commits for head coach Mike Norvell and his coaching staff. Williams first pledged to the Noles on March 26 of last year.
But now his appearance at FSU's Legacy Weekend assured that Tallahassee is home for the Lennard High star of Ruskin, Fl. He told Zach Blostein of Noles247 what he enjoyed the most about the visit.
"The atmosphere, it's always something special to me. Every time I come back, I always fall more in love with it. It's just like home to me. I'm like 110% committed to Florida State," Williams told Noles247.
Williams got the chance to see the scrimmage as well while chatting with past Seminole greats.
But here's what else stood out about his trip to the campus during the weekend of March 28.
"The main thing that really stood out to me was the NFL players coming back to talk to the players that are looking forward to coming to Florida State," he said. "The players, they actually put a lot of knowledge on us. I learned a whole bunch of new things about the NFL players that came back to Florida State."
He spent time with one beloved member of the Seminoles who tasted an undefeated regular season and Atlantic Coast Conference championship.
"Jordan Travis was the main one that stood out to me. He talked a lot about mental health and how he can really solve it," Williams said. "It's more than just football with him. You should always have a a plan B because anything can happen."
Travis guided FSU into a New Year's Six bowl amid the 13-1 regular season. He also played with fellow Seminole stars Braden Fiske and Jared Verse.
Will Williams opt out of FSU? He got asked that by Blostein himself.
"No sir. As of right now, Florida State changed my mind with everything so I might decide to shut everything down soon," he said.
His conversation with Norvell also likely sealed his decision on avoiding taking anymore recruiting visits.
"[With] Mike Norvell, his message always something special to me. Everything he tells me has always been the same thing. It hasn't been nothing fake," Williams said. "All of the coaches have been showing the same love. It's just been the same intentions with them. I love the coaches."
Williams landed 22 total offers including from rival Miami. He's the nation's No. 10 overall safety by 247Sports.
