From track-star speed to shattering school records, relive the explosive career of Florida State’s most prolific receiver and his unforgettable journey to the national championship.
A bolt of lightning, escaping all who tried to stop him.
A Seminole warrior spirit thrust into battle that rivals could never catch. That is a fitting description for former Florida State receiver and school record-holder Rashad Greene.
A multi-sport star with the Seminoles from 2011 to 2014, Greene holds the program records for receptions (270) and receiving yards (3,830). Recruited by then-coach Jimbo Fisher, Greene arrived on campus and was productive from day 1 of his freshman season.
Greene was adept at making plays in space and then using his God-given track speed to outrace defenders to the end zone.
As a varsity rookie, Greene hauled in 38 passes for 596 yards and seven touchdowns. He followed that up with an improved sophomore campaign of 57 catches for 741 yards and six scores.
The 2013 season was a breakout year for Greene as his production increased significantly. Greene posted 76 receptions for 1,128 yards and nine scores, and earned first-team All-ACC honors. He helped lead Florida State to an undefeated season (14-0) and an appearance in the BCS National Championship Game vs. No. 2 Auburn. Against the Tigers, Greene caught nine passes for 147 yards in a 34-31 victory.
For an encore in 2014, Greene set a single-season record with 99 catches for 1,365 yards (second-most all-time) and seven touchdowns, including a season-high 203 receiving yards against Oklahoma State. He earned first-team All-ACC once again and added a second-team All-American selection on top of that.
Greene was especially destructive as a junior and senior against conference rival Clemson. In two games against the Tigers, Greene scored four touchdowns (three receiving, one rushing).
Greene’s 29 receiving touchdowns also rank No. 2 on the school list. Fisher used Greene’s speed to the team’s advantage, using him as a running back and punt returner as well. Greene’s 4,444 all-purpose yards rank sixth all-time in program history.
In the 2015 NFL Draft, Greene was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fifth round, where he played four seasons. In 2025, Greene was inducted into the Florida State Athletics Hall of Fame.
Going into the 2026 season, Florida State will have three receiving weapons to continue the streak of talented pass-catchers in the garnet and gold: Duce Robinson, Micahi Danzy, and Devin Carter.
Like Greene, Danzi is a track star at Florida State, and can also utilize his elite speed to make plays in open space. Head football coach Mike Norvell would be wise to draw up plays to utilize Danzi’s speed so he can channel his inner-Rashad Greene and put pressure on opposing offenses and score points to win ball games, because Norvell’s job depends on it.
