Florida State soccer looks to start ACC play as NC State come to town. Florida State will be playing with the top goalkeeper in the ACC as Kate Ockene has been named top Goalkeeper of the week after dominat performances against Georgia and Rice.
No.18 Florida State soccer (4-1-1), will play NC State (7-0-1), on Friday, September 11 in Tallahassee at the Seminole Soccer Complex.
Florida State will enter this game with the best goalkeeper in the ACC, as Kate Ockene has been named ACC Goalkeeper of the Week.
For the sophomore goalkeeper, this is her second significant individual award. In 2025, following Florida State's national championship victory over Stanford, she was named College Cup Defensive Most Outstanding Player in 2025.
She had a season high eight saves against Rice. Her performance against the Owls was one save shy of tying her personal record of nine that the goalie set during her freshman year.
Ockene took over the starting role for head coach Brian Pensky in 2025 and had 11 starts, 30 saves, and 5 shutouts as a freshman.
Florida State will get ready for its ACC opener as they prepare for the undefeated and unranked NC State Wolfpack.
Florida State is coming off of an impressive come from behind win against No. 25 Georgia, and a draw against Rice. In addition to the outstanding week that Ockene had, Wrianna Hudson, Tanner Strickland, and Sam Erbach have all been crucial pieces for coach Pensky.
Erbach is one of 11 new transfers brought in by Pensky, and she was the star of the Georgia game scoring the tying goal, and the winning goal.
Florida State is 19-3-4 all time versus NC State with their playing history going back to 1995. NC State has not played a ranked team all year, but has wins against James Madison, VCU, Charlotte, Elon, Highpoint, Davidson, and West Carolina.
NC State has tremendous experience in its starting lineup. Senior forward Jade Bordeleau scored ten goals in 2025 and already has scored nine goals in the first seven games of the season. She scored a hat trick against Davidson.
Erica Roberts is a senior forward with two goals on the season. Roberts is known as a high volume shooter with 10 shots against VCU, and six against Elon.
5th year Pittsburgh transfer Ellie Breech was one of the most successful goalkeepers in Pittsburgh history, with a program record 40 wins during her time at Pittsburgh.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. The theme of the evening is Military Appreciation.
