Goalkeeper Kate Ockene secured her third clean sheet as the stagnant Seminoles battled through a defensive stalemate to snap Louisville’s winning momentum in a gritty road draw.
The No. 22 Florida State soccer team couldn’t get much going offensively but secured a scoreless draw with Louisville on Sunday in Louisville, Kentucky.
Louisville had nine shots while Florida State only launched three. However, both teams only had one shot on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Kate Ockene only faced one shot on goal and made the save for her third clean sheet of the season and eighth of her career.
The Seminoles (4-1-3) took a 15-day break before this game. They shut out their opponent for the fourth time this season.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals (8-1-2) extended their unbeaten streak to 10 consecutive matches. The Cardinals have only suffered one loss in their last 19 games.
The Seminoles will travel to Clemson on Sunday Oct. 4 at 3:30 p.m. ET. Florida State’s next home match will on Oct. 9 against North Carolina at 6 p.m., on ESPNU.
Volleyball
The Florida State volleyball team (6-6, 1-1 ACC) renewed their rivalry with the Miami Hurricanes (3-8, 1-1), but fell in straight sets on Sunday in Coral Gabels.
The Seminoles were swept despite recording three more kills than the Hurricanes (43-40) and matched the Hurricanes with 37 digs.
Kyleene Filimaua led the Seminoles with 20.5 points, including 19 kills while hitting a team-best .421. Sofia Moss added 10 kills and seven digs, while Emma Lilo led the Seminoles support 24 assists and eight digs.
The Seminoles return home for a five-match homestand, starting with NC State on Friday.
Women’s Tennis
The Florida State tennis duo of Abby Kelliher and Ariana Gilbert reached the championship match of the Bedford Cup in Tampa this past weekend.
The Seminole duo defeated Stetson's Alissia Aleksandra Kivi and Lena Karolina Hornecka 6-1 in the round of 16 to start their run. They prevailed over Florida Atlantic’s No. 48-ranked tandem of Panna Bartha and Katrin Pavkova 6-2 advance to the semifinals.
Against the hosting South Florida Bulls’ best duo of Zoe Lazar and Margherita Marcon in the semifinals, Kelliher earned a 7-6(4) victory in a tiebreaker to reach the doubles final. Their run ended in defeated against North Florida in the championship match.
Beach Volleyball
The Florida State Beach Volleyball team announced its fall schedule on Monday. The Seminoles will split the team in half on Oct. 9-11 to play in tournaments in Fort Walton Beach, and Manhattan Beach, California.
The Seminoles will also compete in events in Tavares, Florida (Oct. 24-25), Huntsville, Alabama and Jacksonville (Nov. 6-9). They will also host the Garnet and Gold Scrimmage on November 14, the first day of Coach Brooke Niles' Elite ID Camp. Niles enters the new year as the all-time winningest coach in the NCAA with over 300 wins. She is entering her 12th season with the Seminoles.
The Seminoles will round out the Fall slate in Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii, on Nov. 20-22.
