The Georgia Bulldogs suffered their first loss of the 2026 season, falling 27-24 to Auburn in Athens. Despite an early 14-0 lead, Gunner Stockton's three turnovers and a struggling rushing attack helped the Tigers secure their first victory over Georgia since 2017.

The Georgia Bulldogs were handed their first loss of the season as the Auburn Tigers upset them in Athens, 27-24, on Saturday.

It is the first time since 2005 that Georgia has lost at home in the South's oldest rivalry, and the first loss overall against Auburn since 2017.

Here is what you need to know from the contest.

Offense starts strong.

Georgia got off to an early 14-0 lead in the first quarter against Auburn on Saturday. The Bulldogs began their opening drive with a 5-play, 75-yard scoring drive that ended with a Dwight Phillips Jr. 15-yard score.

They followed that up with an 89-yard drive on 7 plays. That was capitalized on by a Lawson Luckie 25-yard reception from quarterback Gunner Stockton.

However, the offense stalled in the middle quarters of the game, and they did not pick up another point until the fourth quarter.

Turnovers are a major blow.

In a game where your opponent is prone to turnovers, Georgia couldn't get out of their own way.

The Bulldogs allowed three turnovers in this contest. Two interceptions from Gunner Stockton and a fumble from the Georgia quarterback. That was the final nail in the coffin, allowing Auburn to set up for a game-winning field goal with time expiring.

Stockton was injured on the very first play of the game and seemed a bit rattled during the rest of the contest. Maybe something worth monitoring.

The running game was stalled.

The biggest question mark following this game is the lack of production Georgia found in its running game.

The team was obviously dealing with injuries to Nate Fraser, and Dwight Phillips Jr. ended up getting hurt during the game, but excluding Stockton's scrambles, the Bulldogs' running game only consisted of 19 carries.

It was certainly confusing, as Phillips Jr. averaged 6.8 yards per carry when handed the football, but the usage was very sparse.

Georgia was held to only 113 total rushing yards, a full 100 yards less than their season average.

What's next?

The Georgia Bulldogs will have to think about this one for some extra time, as the team will head into their bye week.

They will finish the first half of their season 6-1 and will be back in action at Sanford Stadium on Halloween, October 31, when they host the Florida Gators.
