The Georgia Bulldogs could be down a couple of guys.
The Georgia Bulldogs are set to host the Oklahoma Sooners this week in one of the biggest games of the year, and certainly the first real test for the Dawgs after domination for the first three weeks.
Obliterating their opponents by a combined 138 points over the first three weeks of the season, the Sooners come into Athens with some struggles of their own on offense but one of the best defenses in the country. Georgia is right around a two touchdown favorite still, but Oklahoma is absolutely capable of coming in and causing serious issues.
The Wednesday injury availability report is the latest reason to think the Sooners have a real shot with two key playmakers on the Bulldogs offense listed as questionable.
Nate Frazier, Isiah Canion Listed as Questionable for Georgia
Both running back Nate Frazier and wide receiver Isiah Canion were banged up a bit in the SEC opener against the Arkansas Razorbacks, however Kirby Smart described both guys as day-to-day and seemed to anticipate having both available for Oklahoma. Seeing them pop up on the injury report Wednesday is not a shock, but it does indicate the fact that perhaps the injuries are still lingering headed into the weekend.
Having success running the ball is going to be critical for the Bulldogs to operate an efficient offense against this stingy Sooners front, so while potentially David Stone being out for Oklahoma could make it a bit easier, missing Frazier would be a tough blow.
Smart seemed confident Frazier would be good to go, but it now looks like more of a mystery.
As for Canion, while he only has three catches on the year so far to this point, he entered the season as one of the most important weapons on this team and this could be the game he breaks out. As a big bodied outside receiver who can make plays on jump balls, this is the exact game where Georgia could use someone they can trust like Canion.
Dealing with a right leg issue, it would not be shocking to see the Bulldogs hold Canion out of action and let him rest up. It would make Oklahoma a more difficult assignment, but Georgia also needs to think about the long-term.
Fans will eagerly await the final update to see if both guys are able to suit up or if one of Frazier or Canion winds up on the shelf for this week.
