The Georgia Bulldogs are going to be down one of their most important players.

The Georgia Bulldogs have a massive game this week against the Alabama Crimson Tide on the road, a program the Dawgs have not defeated in the regular season in close to two decades.

While much of the focus has been on the weather, Wednesday evening revealed the initial injury availability report, and there was a significant Georgia player listed as out who nobody saw coming. Junior running back Chauncey Bowens, who was played an important role the last two seasons, is going to be out.

The reports surrounding Bowens seem to indicate he was rolled up on during the win over Vanderbilt, with Dawgs Central even reporting that Bowens is in a walking boot this week. While the good news is that Nate Frazier is not on the report, one has to wonder just how healthy he is, and with Bowens now out, the Bulldogs all of the sudden look very thin at running back.

Georgia Running Back Depth Looks Shaky Before Alabama Showdown

Bowens has been a key piece of the goal line attack with six rushing touchdowns on the year, and with 10 carries last week against Vanderbilt he led the attack. It was sophomore Bo Walker who made the most of his opportunities though with 71 yards on just five touches, and he is going to be a key piece this week as well.

Dwight Phillips Jr. -- who Kirby Smart has been heaping praise on the last couple of weeks -- will also undoubtedly be a key piece of the plan as well. Georgia has solid depth at the position, but Bowens being out along with Frazier likely being limited is a bit of a blow to the chances of winning the game.

With weather conditions potentially brutal, establishing the run will be key, and an Alabama run defense that looks greatly improved this year certainly will love any edge they can get.

More pressure is put on Gunner Stockton as well, but that's nothing he cannot handle. Injuries are a reality in this sport, and ultimately who manages them better can decide who is still standing at the end of a season.

It's just another challenge for the Dawgs on a night that will be full of them, and Kirby Smart is being faced with one of the biggest regular season games of his career at Georgia. Time will tell how he and his team handle it.
