Georgia Still Controls Destiny in Absolutely Wild SEC Race This Season

The SEC still runs through Athens, and the Georgia Bulldogs can get it done.

The Georgia Bulldogs were on a bye this weekend and getting healthy as well as making improvements for the stretch run, and the race in the SEC is getting absolutely wild.

While the home loss to Auburn last week was shocking and inexcusable, the bye came at the perfect time for the Dawgs. Things in this league are as unpredictable as they have been perhaps ever before, but if there is one team to trust here during a year in which no one can be trusted, it's still Kirby Smart's group in Athens.

This weekend, the Kentucky Wildcats took sole possession of first place in the league, and while an SEC Championship game would be absolutely phenomenal, the Dawgs are set up as well as anyone to win this league for the third straight season and secure a bye in the College Football Playoff.

Georgia Still Team to Beat in SEC Right Now

In a year where any given Saturday is as much of a toss up perhaps as ever, should any team be trusted more than one coached by Kirby Smart? The stretch run of the schedule for the Dawgs has become a little bit tougher than anyone thought it could be with the season Florida has had as well as an impressive turnaround from South Carolina, who the Dawgs face on the road in the second to last week of the year.

The road game at Ole Miss was always going to be a tough one, but Georgia should be up for the challenge. In reality, it's anyone's guess who is going to be standing on top at the end of this absolutely chaotic regular season, but if folks had to make a prediction right now, it's safe to say most would be sticking with the Bulldogs.

With seven teams at 2 losses or better, the race is wide open and it truly is anyone's guess right now. But with the way the schedule shakes out, the overall body of work Georgia has shown, and the history of consistent performance, there's no question who the team to beat is right now.

It's going to be a fascinating November in this conference, and without a doubt, the Bulldogs are going to be at the center of the SEC drama. Whether or not that ends with confetti in Atlanta once again remains to be seen, but it would be foolish to think it's not the most likely outcome.
