Here's everything you need to know before the Fighting Illini take on the Spartans on Saturday afternoon.
The Illinois Fighting Illini are in desperate need of a bounce-back performance after last week's shocking upset loss to Purdue.
Illinois will get that opportunity on Saturday afternoon, when Bret Bielema's team faces similarly struggling Michigan State. The Spartans are in their first year under new head coach Pat Fitzgerald, but are 2-3 on the season amid a three-game slide. MSU lost to No. 3 Notre Dame by 17 points and Nebraska by 18 points before falling to Wisconsin last week, 31-3.
The Fighting Illini have lost their first two Big Ten games in consecutive weeks. No. 5 Ohio State handled Illinois, 42-19, resulting in the dismissal of defensive coordinator Bobby Hauck. Last Saturday, the Boilermakers came away with a 24-17 win in Champaign.
Purdue jumped out to an early 13-0 lead, and Illinois didn't find the end zone until the end of the first half on a Collin Dixon touchdown. The Boilermakers made it a two-touchdown game with 4:29 to go in the game and the Fighting Illini scored late, but Illinois couldn't pull any closer.
