Before you spend your Halloween night watching Iowa State, you better make some time to enjoy these games, too.
Iowa State football fans, grab your family, snacks and get comfortable because Week 9 has plenty of exciting games that will be worth watching. Starting with conference races heating up and teams fighting to improve their postseason chances, Saturday’s schedule offers something for everyone. Whether you enjoy historic rivalries, ranked matchups, or potential upsets, this weekend has several games that deserve your attention.
And the best part? You have two windows to watch games before Iowa State takes the field against Oklahoma State on Saturday evening.
Here are the five games I believe Cyclone fans should have on their viewing list this weekend.
1. Notre Dame vs. Navy (11 a.m, ABC)
This physical matcup is always worth watching because of the history between these two programs. Notre Dame enters ranked No. 5, while Navy will have an opportunity to make a statement against one of the country’s top teams. I believe Notre Dame has the advantage, but Navy’s physical style could make things interesting. This is a game that shouldn’t be overlooked.
2. Florida vs. Georgia (2:30 p.m., ABC)
When Florida and Georgia meet, you can expect intensity. Georgia enters ranked No. 3, while Florida comes in ranked No. 17. This is one of the biggest games of the weekend, and the stakes make it even more interesting. Georgia has the higher ranking, but rivalry games have a way of producing surprises. I’m expecting a competitive atmosphere and a strong performance from both teams.
3. Utah vs. Cincinnati (2:45 p.m., ESPN)
This is another game that deserves recognition. Utah is ranked No. 6 and will travel to face Cincinnati. The Utes have a chance to strengthen their position among the nation’s top teams, but Cincinnati will have home-field advantage. I think this could be one of the more entertaining games of the afternoon.
4. Ohio State vs. USC (6:30 p.m., NBC)
If you’re looking for a primetime matchup, this is the one. No. 2 Ohio State travels to face USC in a Big Ten showdown. Both programs have national expectations, and this game could have major repercussions moving forward. Ohio State has the higher ranking, but but being the visitors against USC won’t be an easy assignment.
5. Arizona vs. Texas Tech (11 a.m., ESPN)
This Big 12 matchup features No. 22 Arizona visiting No. 13 Texas Tech. With both teams ranked, there’s plenty on the line. I expect this to be a competitive conference game , and Arizona has an opportunity to make a statement on the road.
Final Thoughts
Week 9 has a little bit of everything. From traditional rivalries to ranked conference battles, Saturday gives college football fans plenty of reasons to stay tuned. If I had to choose one game, Ohio State versus USC would be at the top of my list. However, Florida versus Georgia could easily steal the spotlight.
Enjoy the weekend, Cyclone fans.
