This was Iowa State's first time scoring single-digit points since the dubious 2023 loss at Ohio.
Iowa State's return to action did not yield good results for Jimmy Rogers and Co.
The Cyclones were completely outmatched in every facet of the game in a 39-3 loss against No. 25 Arizona on Saturday night.
While Iowa State fans continue to panic about the direction of this program, we've got the numbers for you. Here are some of the top numbers that stood out from the Cyclones' loss.
8: Quarterback Jaylen Raynor was benched at halftime, and the putrid offensive showing resulted in him snapping his career-best streak of eight games with a touchdown pass.
36: The Cyclones don't get blown out very often, but what we saw in Tucson was one of those rare moments. Arizona's 36-point triumph marked the largest defeat for an Iowa State team since TCU's 62-14 win over the Cyclones in the 2022 season finale. This was also the first time Iowa State has scored single digits in a game since the dubious 10-7 loss to Ohio in 2023.
43: Iowa State committed six penalties for 43 yards.
5-2-1: Arizona's victory now moves its overall record against Iowa State to 5-2-1, including 4-1-1 in Tucson. The Cyclones' only wins in this series have come in Ames, with one inside old Clyde Williams Field and one inside Jack Trice Stadium. This also happened to be the first meeting between these two teams in the desert in 60 years.
14-25: Iowa State is now 14-25 against ranked opponents dating back to the 2017 season. Its most recent win over a ranked team was a dramatic win over rival Kansas State in the 2025 season opener.
3-14: This number shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who watched this football game, but Iowa State struggled badly on third down. The Cyclones just haven't seemed to match up against Big 12 defenses this year, and no matter what play call offensive coordinator Tyler Roehl tried to dial up, it just didn't work. Iowa State finished 3-of-14 on third down conversions and 1-of-3 on fourth down attempts.
100: Despite tallying just 52 yards as a team (1.7) yards per carry, Iowa State's running back room did produce another milestone for top back Aiden Flora on Saturday. The former walk-on from Adel surpassed 100 career carries in this one and is averaging 7.02 yards per carry - the most in school history.
Up Next
Iowa State's schedule doesn't get any easier from here. The Cyclones do have the pleasure of playing in front of their home fans in Ames on Halloween night, but the opponent is going to present a major challenge. That said opponent is none other than No. 24 Oklahoma State, which is flying high after throttling Colorado on Saturday night.
Kickoff from Jack Trice Stadium is set for 6 p.m on FS1.
