Welcome back to our countdown to the 2026 Iowa football season! 

Since May 28, we've been counting down the final 100 days until the Hawkeyes swarm out of the Kinnick Stadium tunnel for their season opener against Northern Illinois on Sept. 5. 

Each day of this countdown has primarily featured an article profiling one of the current members of the 2026 Hawkeyes based on their jersey number. If someone wears No. 27 and the countdown falls on day 27, that's the player we're going to be taking a look at. 

Loyal readers already know this, but if there isn't a current man that wears a certain number that fits the day of the countdown, we've usually gone the historical route to find something relevant to the 2026 campaign. 

We were forced to do that on Wednesday when we took a look back at the 2018 Iowa-Northern Iowa matchup, but that won't be the case this morning. 

Today marks 23 days until kickoff, so that means it's time to take a look at the man who dons No. 23 - Brevin Doll. 

Doll could be a name to watch this year, so get to know him here. 

Hometown: Adel, Iowa 

High School: Adel DeSoto Minburn High School 

Year: Third-Year 

Height: 6-foot 

Weight: 213 pounds 

Other notable players to wear No. 23: There's not a lot of notable Hawks to wear No. 23 over the years, but there does happen to be another player that wears No. 23 this year - linebacker Landyn Van Kekerix. The Rock Valley, Iowa native hasn't seen much action on defense, but he has tallied a lot of snaps on special teams, winning Iowa's Reggie Roby Special Teams Award for his work there last year. The Hawkeyes' linebacker room is wide open, so there's always a chance for Van Kekerix to see an increased depth role in 2026. 

Injuries and veterans ahead of him have limited Doll's playing time as a Hawkeye so far, but with a lot of position groups up for grabs this year, it's hard not to envision the highly-touted prospect finding a role in 2026. 

Why? Because Doll's high school numbers were outstanding. He left ADM as one of the school's most decorated athletes, having had success in football, basketball, and track and field. But football was always Doll's best sport, and he proved it by setting numerous school records. 

An injury cut Doll's senior campaign short, but what he did in his junior year is likely what caught the attention of Iowa and other Power Four programs. Doll finished with 27 rushing touchdowns and scored 210 total points during the 2022 season - setting new Tiger single-season records in the process and earning Iowa 3A Offensive Player of the Year honors. 

Not only was Doll a capable wide receiver as well (640 yards, six TD as a junior), he was also a force as a kick returner, recording one punt and one kick return touchdown. 

Ranked as a three-star prospect by 247Sports, Doll chose the Hawkeyes over offers from Iowa State, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Minnesota, and others. 

Doll's had to wait his turn since arriving in Iowa City, but special teams figures to be a potential landing spot for the Adel native this year. He is one of the many names that could replace Kaden Wetjen at returner, but if that doesn't work out, offensive coordinator Tim Lester could use his speed to make plays for the offense. 

No one will know what role Doll could play until Iowa takes the field, but he seems to be ready to make plays for the Hawkeyes this year.
