Kansas State player Brandon White had a huge punt return for a touchdown last week against Nicholls
It hasn't taken receiver Brandon White long to have an impact with the Kansas State Wildcats football team.
In his first game for the Wildcats, he returned a punt 65 yards for a touchdown in last week's victory against Nicholls at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. It helped first-year coach Collin Klein kick off his era with a win.
Klein said the showing was why White won the returner job during training camp.
"You could tell really, really good short-area quickness," Klein said "He caught the ball, for the most part, well through training camp. We rotated a lot of different guys back there, and (he) had a natural feel for it. I think our guys get really excited because of how Coach (Stanton) Weber sells it, and the history of this place, and how important we make it that they're excited to get a shot and take it."
White has taken a long path to get to Manhattan. He began his collegiate career playing for the Kentucky Wildcats. After three seasons in Lexington, he spent last year with the Hawaii Rainbows.
With this being the transfer portal era, where players can switch teams on a yearly basis, White thought he'd give Kansas State a try. So far, it's been beneficial. Even though it's early, the Wildcats are hoping he can continue to bring excitement to the special teams game.
The hope is White can also contribute to the wide receivers unit. Last year he had 38 receptions for 399 yards and two touchdowns for the Rainbows. It was the best production of his career.
White is listed among the starters along with Josh Manning and Jaron Tibbs. He caught two passes for 20 yards, with a long of 13, in the victory against Nicholls. After losing receiver Jayce Brown to LSU, the Wildcats are looking to find a breakout player in the passing game.
