The Kansas State Wildcats are expecting big things from Oklahoma State transfer Wendell Gregory, who plays defensive end

The reality of the NIL era of college football is coaches have to perform well as high school recruiters and the transfer portal.

The Kansas State Wildcats feel they have landed in the portal after defensive end Wendell Gregory transferred from the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Last year he was the Big 12 Freshman of the Year and named third-team All-Conference.

He was rated the top player in the transfer portal by many media outlets. His presence is expected to make Collin Klein's first year in charge go much more smoothly.

"Very proud of Wendell and how he’s attacked the work," Klein said during spring practices. "He’s obviously extremely talented, and he’s got a great God-given skill set. But I’ve been very impressed with his motor and how hard he’s worked in and prepped himself these last three weeks to put that skill set to work, so I’m excited to see how that goes."

Gregory makes things so much easier because he's already a proven player. For him, it's just a matter of getting accustomed to new teammates and playbook terminology. This was the biggest offseason acquisition for the Wildcats by far.

K-STATE CHASING TWO-WAY TEXAS STANDOUT

Kansas State football is still stacking its offers for both the 2027 and 2028 classes.

The latest was two-way athlete Antonio Dural, who currently attends Klein Oak High School in Spring, TX. He plays cornerback and wide receiver and received an offer from Wildcats cornerbacks coach Marcel Yates.

"After a great conversation with Coach [Marcel] Yates, I am super excited to announce that I have received an Offer from Kansas State," Dural tweeted on Friday.

Last season, Dural had 15 total tackles and five pass deflections, along with 30 offensive touches for 468 total yards and three touchdowns. Among the other notable schools offering him are SMU, Kansas, and Nebraska. Kansas State currently has seven defensive backs, including two who play on both sides of the field.
