The Brendan Sorsby gambling situation has officially been resolved.
Well, "resolved" is a strong word. Sorsby was granted an injunction against the NCAA to play for Texas Tech next season. He will play for the Red Raiders in 2026, only serving a two-game suspension despite his egregious gambling history.
The college football world erupted, as many feel the fabric of college football integrity is dissolving in real time. Among those upset are Kansas State fans who have to witness Sorsby on the field next season despite his actions.
And it's boiling over on social media. Multiple Wildcats fans got into a heated argument thread with Cody Campbell, the chairman of the Texas Tech Board of Regents.
And from then, it pretty much trickled down into a long string of quarrels.
At a point, it went from a disagreement to a discussion of power dynamics in college sports.
"You FOUGHT to get a gambling addict WHO BET ON HIS OWN TEAM to be eligible from a judge in Lubbock because you’ll do anything to win & be relevant in TX," one user tweeted. "Absolute trash bro! Everyone hates TT, and you're getting torched by the college football world, and you’re the money behind that."
Beyond its immediate effect on the Big 12 projections, many are upset with the standard this situation sets for punishable offenses moving forward. Kansas State athletic director Gene Taylor voiced his frustrations with the situation.
"It's f****** bulls***," Taylor said in a Yahoo Sports interview. "I know the kid has a problem. Well, get well and focus on your problem. It is absolutely devastating for him to be able to play when every other sport, no matter the level, deems an athlete ineligible or they are punished severely for betting on their team."
This situation will likely dominate college football conversations for a long time, as it's one of the fastest-growing storylines and controversies within the sport. For Kansas State, it puts the Red Raiders back at the top of the conference predictions, as the elevated quarterback play will continue to enhance a defensive juggernaut.
