Kansas State Wildcats coach Collin Klein said he's been impressed with offensive line play thus far.
The offensive line was among the biggest concerns for the Kansas State Wildcats football team.
After the season opener, coach Collin Klein is feeling a little better about his unit. The line paved the way for producing 556 total yards in the victory against Nicholls.
"The first group had no MA's (missed assignments), which was really, really good," Klein said earlier this week. I think there was a clean understanding of what we were trying to get accomplished. It wasn't perfect, but we were trying to do the right thing. So, I thought that was really, really good from that group. I thought there were a couple missed fundamental fits early in that first possession, but I think they really settled after that first surge. I thought they played well."
The Wildcats were dealt with two key injuries during training camp. Preseason All-Big 12 selection John Pastore sustained a season-ending lower leg injury while George Fitzpatrick is set to miss his second straight season due to a medical emergency.
WILLIE THE WILDCAT REACHES BOBBLEHEAD STATUS
There is a new celebrity on the Kansas State Wildcats campus.
While football coach Collin Klein and quarterback Avery Johnson are probably the most popular faces, they are getting some competition from the mascot. Willie The Wildcat is the big man on campus these after going viral for doing 394 push-ups during Kansas State's 71-3 victory Nicholls last week at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
Since becoming an Internet sensation, the mascot has gained plenty of attention. The latest honor was the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum giving the mascot its own bobblehead.
WILDCATS OFFER JUCO DEFENSIVE LINEMAN
While Klein is focused on the current team, he is also trying to build for the future. Klein recently extended a scholarship offer to defensive lineman Jekai Lee of Butler County Community College.
While he isn't rated by most recruiting services, the Wildcats like his size and potential. Lee is 6-foot-6 and 280 pounds. He also has offers from Florida International, Georgia State, Southern Mississippi and University of Texas-San Antonio.
