Garrett Oakley is likely to become the next Kansas State Wildcats player to make the NFL
There have been plenty of NFL scouts in Manhattan to check out a tight end for the Kansas State Wildcats during training camp this season.
And it's not five-star recruit Linkon Cure.
While Cure is the most hyped recruit in K-State history, he could be second-team on the current roster. All the buzz among the pro scouts right now is for senior Garrett Oakley. He was their leading receiver at the position last year with 38 catches for 389 yards and six touchdowns. That earned him honorable mention All-Big 12 honors.
"Garrett Oakley is a special athlete," K-State first-year coach Collin Klein said. "There's a lot of NFL personnel that have been through our building the last week just already at the start of things that he pops with how he's moving around, and that's a really good thing. Their buy-in to doing and mastering their job and their craft and how that all comes together, I'm really excited to see."
In a perfect world, the Wildcats would love to get production from Oakley as well as Cure. He is considered the future after being one of the nation's top recruits. He was coveted by every major school, including the Oregon Ducks and Texas A & M Aggies.
The reality is the Wildcats have the luxury of having two NFL-caliber tight ends on the roster.
GETTING UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL WITH THE WILDCATS
This is perhaps the most anticipated football season for the Kansas State Wildcats in recent years.
It marks the first year of the coach Collin Klein era. He replaced the successful Chris Klieman, who resigned unexpectedly following last year's 6-6 finish. A former Wildcats star, Klein has hopes of making them once again a contender in the Big 12 conference.
And fans can have their chance to meet Klein and the players Aug. 22 at the annual "Meet the Cats" event at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. Gates open at 11 a.m.
