Kansas State Wildcats quarterback Avery Johnson was named a team captain for the third time
When Avery Johnson signed with the Kansas State Wildcats, he was expected to join the elite list of quarterbacks in school history.
While he's yet to win a Big 12 championship or make the College Football Playoff, he has plenty of accomplishments. He recently added another accolade when he was named a team captain for the third time. He is one of only nine Kansas State players to accomplish that.
In fact, he is just the third quarterback to do so. He joins coach Collin Klein and Skylar Thompson. Klein did it from 2010-12 while Thompson was from 2019-21.
Johnson is entering his third season as the full-time starter. The Wildcats are hoping he can help lead the Wildcats to a winning season in Klein's first year as the head coach. It won't be easy in a loaded Big 12, but the Wildcats at least have a favorable schedule. Many of their tough games are at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.

AN UPDATE ON LEFT TACKLE FROM KLEIN
The left tackle position is among the biggest concerns for the Kansas State Wildcats football team.
The offensive line took a serious blow when it was announced John Pastore and George Fitzpatrick were ruled out for the season. Pastore sustained a lower leg injury during training camp while Fitzpatrick continues to deal with a medical emergency that kept him out all of last season as well.
First-year Wildcats coach Collin Klein offered an update on the position Wednesday while speaking to fans at Cat Chat. Here's what he had to say about the left tackle slot: "I'm really excited to see who steps up. I think it'll be a bit by committee, especially early, as we continue to gel, even as we start playing games."
