Kansas State Wildcats are still searching for a starter at left tackle after injuries to John Pastore and George Fitzpatrick
The left tackle position is among the biggest concerns for the Kansas State Wildcats football team.
The offensive line took a serious blow when it was announced John Pastore and George Fitzpatrick were ruled out for the season. Pastore sustained a lower leg injury during training camp while Fitzpatrick continues to deal with a medical emergency that kept him out all of last season as well.
First-year Wildcats coach Collin Klein offered an update on the position Wednesday while speaking to fans at Cat Chat. Here's what he had to say about the left tackle slot: "I'm really excited to see who steps up. I think it'll be a bit by committee, especially early, as we continue to gel, even as we start playing games."
Among those who could compete for the spot are Tyler Johnson, Gus Hawkins, Ryan Howard, Keegan Collins and Oliver Miller.
K-State offensive coordinator Sean Gleeson is particularly high on MIller, who is just a freshman. He is in the mix for possibly getting some reps this season.
"Wherever he settles, he's going to be a great player," Gleeson said. "He's going to be a great player from whenever he takes his first snap."
The Wildcats are coming off a 6-6 season. They were picked to finish eighth in the Big 12 by the league media. The season opener is against Nicholls Sept. 5 at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
