Jayhawks' explosive new weapon, Dylan Edwards, showcases game-changing speed and versatility, poised to elevate Kansas' offense during spring ball.

Transfer Dylan Edwards Already Making Impact In Kansas Jayhawks Spring Ball

It didn’t take long for Dylan Edwards to make an impression in a Kansas uniform.

After transferring from Kansas State in the offseason, Edwards is already showing flashes of the explosiveness that made him one of the most dangerous players in the region. Following an injury-filled 2025 season, the junior running back looks fully healthy and is beginning to find his rhythm in Kansas’ offense during spring practice.

Kansas football head coach Lance Leipold said Edwards was limited early as he worked back from injury, but once cleared, his impact became noticeable.

“Once he’s been given the full go, it’s been exciting to watch him,” Leipold said.

Edwards brings a level of speed and versatility that Kansas lacked at times last season. He has the ability to create big plays both out of the backfield and in the return game, giving the Jayhawks another dynamic option offensively.

At his two previous stops in the Big 12 at Colorado and Kansas State, Edwards showed he could be productive when healthy, totaling more than 1,000 rushing yards and adding value as a receiver. Now at Kansas, he has an opportunity to take on a larger role.

Just as important as his on-field production has been his adjustment off it. Leipold noted that Edwards has focused on learning the system and fitting into the team rather than trying to stand out immediately.

“He’s done a great job just being like everyone else in the building,” Leipold said.

With offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki back leading the system, Kansas is expected to utilize Edwards in a variety of ways, taking advantage of his ability in space.

For a Kansas football team looking to improve in close games, adding a player with Edwards’ skill set could make a significant difference as the season approaches.
