Kiffin denies Ole Miss ultimatum amid LSU pursuit. Family spotted in Baton Rouge as Rebels navigate coaching carousel and playoff push.

In the midst of the No. 5 Ole Miss Rebels’ historic season towards their first College Football Playoff appearance, rumors surrounding their head coach continue to swirl. Lane Kiffin’s family was recently spotted taking a private jet to Baton Rouge as the LSU Tigers appear to be centering on the Rebels’ coach as their priority target.

They aren’t the only ones, as Kiffin has also been linked to the Florida Gators opening in Gainesville. And instead of the focus being on the team’s Egg Bowl matchup against the Mississippi State Bulldogs, they’re instead on the coaching carousel circus.

While reports surfaced of Ole Miss handing down an ultimatum for Kiffin to decide if he’s staying or going before the Egg Bowl on Nov. 28, Kiffin was quick to shoot those down on a recent appearance on ESPN’s "The Pat McAfee Show.”

Here is the full story from LSU Tigers Roundtable writer Dylan Sanders.

LSU Tigers Coaching Target Lane Kiffin Denies Ultimatum Rumors On Pat McAfee Show LSU Tigers Coaching Target Lane Kiffin Denies Ultimatum Rumors On Pat McAfee Show The LSU Tigers coaching search has ramped up drastically over the last 24 hours since the reports surrounding OIe Miss head coach Lane Kiffin's family being in Baton Rouge and Kiffin appearing to be the Tigers' top target.

While Kiffin made pleas to fans to enjoy the bye week and a 10-1 record, those probably fall a bit hollow on exacerbated ears that want to truly enjoy the season. The one urging them to shut out the outside noise is the one, frankly, causing it by his refusal to commit to the Rebels long-term.

Most of this is a leverage game, as Kiffin’s agent, Jimmy Sexton, is one of the best in the business at negotiating raises for his clients, be them at their original program or next endeavor. But there is certainly a lot more smoke connecting Kiffin to the Tigers than any other candidate, and any other school interested in his services.

Should the 50-year-old be LSU’s No. 1 target, it leaves Ole Miss in a bind. If the Rebels make the CFP, should Kiffin be leading them without a commitment to the team? They then run the risk of missing out on their next-best leader in this carousel cycle.
