Heads were rolling the past few weeks at LSU. Head coach Brian Kelly is gone after three-plus years of mediocrity, and athletic director Scott Woodward — the guy who hired Kelly — was kicked to the curb last week.

Verge Ausberry, a former LSU linebacker who's been at the university for 30 years, was named the interim AD after Woodward's firing. That didn't last long. He was named the full-time athletic director on Tuesday.

Here's the story from LSU Roundtable publisher Dylan Sanders.

Ausberry is thrilled to be a part of selecting LSU's next head coach.

"We're going to hire the best football coach there is," Ausberry said last Friday when his interim appointment was announced.  "That's our job. We are not going to let this program fail.

"LSU has to be in the playoffs every year in football. There's 12 teams that make it. It's going to expand here. We have to be one of those teams at LSU. No substitute. We're LSU. This place is not broken. The athletic department is not broken. We win."

Frank Wilson is LSU's interim coach, and after a bye week he faces the daunting task of taking on No. 4-ranked Alabama on Saturday night in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Game time is 7:30 p.m. ET and will be televised on ABC.
