With 21 days until kickoff for the LSU Tigers, it's time to highlight the next two players to don that jersey number in Baton Rouge.
The LSU Tigers football season is inching closer, now down to double digits on the countdown clock. Kickoff against the Clemson Tigers is now just 21 days away.
As we continue to look back at the history of the Bayou Bandits to celebrate and prepare heading into the first game, there is also the matter of getting to know the current-day players.
Here is a look at the past and present of No. 21 at LSU:
No. 21 - CB Michael Turner Jr.
Turner is a redshirt sophomore who hasn't had much impact yet, but still carries high expectations given his athletic ceiling. He has been a project of Corey Raymond, who should start to see higher involvement in the scheme.
Over his first two seasons, including a redshirt campaign with four appearances, he has three tackles and two pass breakups. He has played 47 career snaps at cornerback, per Pro Football Focus.
Coming out of high school, he was a four-star who played on both sides of the ball as well as sprints in track. He could have really gone to school for either cornerback or as a big-play weapon at wide receiver, but he decided to follow Raymond and the defensive back route.
With Aidan Anding going down with an injury, Turner became even more important as valuable depth heading into this season. He'll be one of the first cornerbacks off the bench, but he won't start to begin the year.
No. 21 - QB Cayden Jones
Jones was a high school star not far away from campus, putting up big numbers for the Live Oak Eagles. He seems like a solid athlete who will be a valuable member of the scout team to start off his career.
While walk-ons don't get the most shine, they are important in getting the team prepared to play week in and week out. Some walk-ons also earn their way to a scholarship with hard work and dedication.
A Former LSU Tigers Who Wore No. 21
DB Jerry Stovall (1960-1962)
Actually, this is a little relevant to recent news, but Stovall is someone whose specific No. 21 jersey was retired, and the number is still actively worn by players. This is a popular approach to retiring numbers in college.
Stovall was an All-SEC defensive back in college, a Pro-Bowler in the NFL and then went on to eventually coach the Tigers for a few years at the start of the eighties.
