These four LSU Tigers players must make an impression every time they see the field against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs this weekend.
The LSU Tigers have a less intense matchup this weekend against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, but just because they will be heavily favored doesn't mean this game won't be important.
Part of the reason why playing games against smaller schools is important, is that it opens up more opportunities for guys who need to build some confidence or maybe earn some extra snaps.
Here are four Tigers who I think could benefit the most from their playing time this weekend:
WR Malik Elzy
Elzy started the game and then had a drop on the second play of the game that ended up as an interception, then he ended up only playing 13 more snaps on the night after that. While it's clear that LSU was always going to use a heavy rotation at wide out, it's also fair to say that the drop killed whatever moment Elzy had going into the game.
With so much talent at wide receiver, it's important not to let mistakes pile as they will always have another player to look to. He finished that game without a catch, so no way to right the early wrong. He should see himself find the field this weekend, though, so another chance to build up some chemistry with quarterback Sam Leavitt.
The 6-foot-2, 217-pound target obviously brings something as a blocker that most of the other wideouts don't, but he also needs to catch the ball when thrown at him.
EDGE Dylan Carpenter
Carpenter doesn't need to go out there to right a wrong, but rather build upon a strong performance against the Clemson Tigers so that he can potentially carve out a larger role in the defense. The starting defensive ends, Jordan Ross and Princewill Umanmielen, are already two of the best in the country. If they are able to add impactful depth behind them, this defense will only get more unstoppable.
The redshirt junior has been around for a couple of years, but has never broken out. Against Clemson, he matched his career-total pressure count of three and picked up his second career sack.
RBs Caden Durham/Harlem Berry
It's unclear how much Durham or Berry will even be able to win back some snaps this year, but both were completely out of the game plan against Clemson behind Dilin Jones and Stacy Gage. The two backs had entered the season with expectations of starting, at least competing, but that is not the case.
Now they need to take advantage of whatever chances they do get to show that whatever went wrong in the Fall is behind them, or even potentially just put out tape for their next schools at this point. Basically, they just need to salvage whatever they can so that this doesn't become a lost season in two promising careers.
