The LSU Tigers don't play football on Saturday. Here is who fans should be rooting for in the SEC's five games that are taking place, as the Tigers are still very much alive in the College Football Playoff race.
The LSU Tigers are on a bye week and won't play a game on Halloween. Still, though, college football fans are going to want to tune in to some fun matchups. Even though the Tigers don't have a game this weekend, the result of this slate could still obviously have an impact on where LSU ends up in the postseason.
The Tigers are pretty much in control of their own destinyScott Wachter-Imagn Images in terms of getting back to the College Football Playoff, with three ranked opponents still to come; where they end up being seeded will rely on their resume and a potential SEC Championship opportunity.
There are a ton of two-loss SEC schools right now, which includes LSU, so the Tigers need a lot of them to end up falling. Here is a rooting guide for Saturday:
Ole Miss Rebels vs. Auburn Tigers
Best Result: Toss-Up, Slight Edge To Tigers
The first game of the night ends up as the one where there is an argument for both sides.. LSU does need the Rebels to lose another game, but they did lose to them, so they need them to remain a threat. The best-case scenario is probably an Ole Miss win with a loss next week to Georgia. Given that that is no guarantee, a slight edge to Auburn knocking them down this weekend.
Georgia Bulldogs vs. Florida Gators
Best Result: Bulldogs Win
Georgia only have one loss, but the Gators are a two-loss SEC team that is pretty much right next to the Tigers. Florida getting a win over the Bulldogs would give them a great argument over LSU in an at-large conversation. The Gators winning would at least knock Georgia into that two SEC loss grouping, so there is a positive for both sides.
Oklahoma Sooners vs. South Carolina Gamecocks
Best Result: Gamecocks Win
There is no head-to-head with the Tigers and either of these schools, so they just need to root for the Sooners picking up a third SEC loss.
Texas Longhorns vs. Mississippi State Bulldogs
Best Result: Longhorns Win
The best case scenario at this point for LSU is Texas looking strong each week, but the Tigers being the team to send them down to three SEC losses. The win over the Bulldogs already isn't viewed in high regard, so LSU doesn't really need to worry about Mississippi State's program strength. With Kamario Taylor out for the year, they shouldn't need to worry much.
Arkansas Razorbacks vs. Missouri Tigers
Best Result: Razorbacks Win
LSU does play Arkansas in the final game of the year, so making that win look as strong as possible would be nice. Plus, a Missouri loss here would bring them down to three losses. A win-win.
