A massive recruiting win for Will Wade and the LSU Tigers, as they gained a commitment from combo guard King Gibson on Sunday night.

The LSU Tigers have landed a major commitment, as five-star guard King Gibson announced his decision to come to Baton Rouge on Sunday night on ESPN2.

Gibson is a cornerstone player for next year's roster, as he is one of the most respected basketball talents to come to the school. Using the 247Sports composite rankings, he's actually the third-highest-ranked commit in the history of the school, right above fellow Will Wade commits turned NBA contributors Naz Reid and Trendon Watford.

The 6-foot-5 guard chose the Tigers over the Arkansas Razorbacks, Louisville Cardinals and Providence Friars. Being in recruiting battles for guards with coach John Calipari (and winning them) is a huge step forward for LSU. This is their first five-star player since Watford in 2019.

Once Wade returned to the Tigers, it was clear that the school was going to give him more resources than he had before. The first year of roster building was unconventional, but his first high school class with a full cycle is off to a stellar start.

Gibson is someone who could certainly end up as a one-and-done player who ends up as a first-round pick in the 2028 draft, but he has a chance to make a major impact on the school's future. LSU is one of the top brands in college sports, but it has been a while since their basketball program could really be considered competitive.

If they are able to land top-end recruits and then win games in this sport as well, it won't take long for them to build momentum.

Gibson competed for his high school, Spire Academy, in the Border League tournament on ESPN2 before committing and showcased his ability to rock the rim. He's a great athlete who gives great effort on both sides of the ball. He will be a very fun player to watch throughout his tenure in Baton Rouge.

This already has the makings of a statement class, as LSU also has four-star forward Ahmad Hudson, who is a real candidate to play two sports in college. Knowing how Wade and this staff operate, they are just getting started as well.

The Tigers have also hosted another five-star guard in Reese Alston as well. It will be interesting to see what this class ends up looking like, and will be revealing as to just how hard LSU plans to invest into this program.

Wade his team will take the the court for the first time later this week in an exhibition game against the McNeese St. Cowboys. A strong campaign would only serve to help their recruiting efforts moving forward.
